Statement:

Greetings Pioneers,
My name is Jerry T Chang. You may know me as a classmate, a tutor, a teaching assistant, a club leader, an ASI committee member, and as another concerned student of CSU East Bay. Since 2008, Ive engaged students, faculty and the administration in an on-going discussion of how to improve our school. I am honored to have served the students of our university directly as a student, with the cooperation of various student clubs and organizations, and from five ASI committees. Now, I proudly serve to champion the student voice as your ASI president.
My main goal for ASI is to engage the university and its departments to foster cooperation among the entire campus community. We will provide opportunities for students, faculty, the administration and the local community to come together. My hope is that we better understand our mutual needs and desires and that we search deep within ourselves and within the resources we have at our disposal to bring each other one step closer to our meeting our needs and achieving our desires.
I hope our campus, at the heart of the bay, becomes a beacon of innovation in collegiate integration with our greater community. I hope the ideas we develop this year will serve as a template for other universities that wish to invest in their surrounding communities. I believe doing so will reaffirm the importance of supporting institutions of higher education in a healthy society focused on economic and social advancement.
I am here to serve our future and the future of every subsequent generation that follows. I need your input, I need your support, and most importantly I need you to be by my side as we build something special for our fellow students. My name is Jerry T Chang. I am here to serve.
Best regards,
Your Student-Body President
Jerry T. Chang

For four years, I ran cross country and track for CSUEB and was an active member of Delta Sigma Phi. Before my time is up at CSUEB I would like to give back to the school by being vice president of Internal Affairs. I will focus on maintaining a strong connection between ASI administrators, the board of ASI, informing organizations of important upcoming events and working on expanding important services to students. My goal is to fulfill the duties that I have been elected to as Vice President of Internal Affairs while always keeping in mind that I am working for the students.

DIRECTOR, CONCORD CAMPUS

Contact Information,
Fax-(510) 885-7415
Email- asidirconcord@csueastbay.edu

Statement:

Hello, my name is Stephanie and I am a senior majoring in Health Science with an option in Administration and Management and a minor in Business Administration. I have a three year old son and raise him as a single mother. Now that he is getting older he is becoming interested in going to school just like his mom which is something that I am very proud to hear. Even though I have gone through my share of struggles I know that the best thing for me was to continue with my education. I started at the Concord Campus as a freshman in the first pre-nursing cluster offered in 2008. In 2009 I began working as a student assistant in Academic Services and in the Computer Lab. From there I became even more involved with the Concord Campus by becoming a mentor in the Big/Little program for incoming pre-nursing students. I became a Concord Campus Ambassador while continuing my work as a student assistant. I am in the process of creating two new clubs to facilitate students becoming more involved with the campus life at the Concord Campus. One of my main goals as ASI Director of the Concord Campus is to bring a sense community to the campus as well as bring more services to the students.

Laurel O'Brien

DIRECTOR, ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS

Contact Information,
Fax-(510) 885-7415
Email- asidirenvironment@csueastbay.edu

Statement:

Hello Pioneers Im thrilled for the opportunity to serve you as Director of Environmental Affairs for the 2012-13 school year. As an Environmental Studies major, Im learning so much in my classes about environmental problems on a global scale. I feel absolutely impelled to do whatever I can on a local scale, and where better to start than right here on the CSUEB campus? I see limitless potential for what we can achieve in the area of sustainability, but well need all hands on deck. Thats why one of my main priorities will be supporting the creation of a Sustainability Club to help raise the profile of and engage students on important environmental issues. Its far too easy to be the stereotypical commuter student at this university, so I want to start organizing efforts that will stop students in their tracks and get them thinking about how sustainability is really at the core of everything we do, no matter where ones interests lie.
I also want to ensure that ASI takes its ecological footprint into consideration with every decision we make in the event-planning process. Everything from flyers to food and utensils to waste management serve as golden opportunities to show students how our duty as good stewards to the environment doesnt stop with recycling and turning lights off at home--in this day and age, we need to do all that we can no matter where we are. I think this is a crucial and empowering lesson for every student to take with them down whatever path they choose after graduation.
As a transfer student, I havent been around as long as many of you, so I really look forward to taking advantage of this position and getting to know you all much better in the coming year!

Seetha Ream-Rao

DIRECTOR, LEGISLATIVE AFFAIRS

Contact Information,
Fax-(510) 885-7415
Email- asidirlegaffairs@csueastbay.edu

Statement:

Hello,
My name is Seetha Ream-Rao. I am a junior majoring in Political Science Pre-Law, with a minor in Environmental Studies. Last year I was the Vice Chair of the Legislative Affairs committee and this year I am excited to be the Director of Legislative Affairs.
As the Vice Chair of the Legislative Affairs committee and I have gotten to see some of the things that ASI can accomplish. Our committee hosted the first annual candidate debate; it was the first of its kind to occur on this campus. Students need a strong voice in today's world. Our state government wants to continue to cut education and put further strains on students. I will work with the ASI committees to work to ensure that students get their financial aid checks on time. Also I will work to find ways to bring more scholarships to our campus. I want to be a member of the Board of Directors because I want to stand up for students. I want to be able to provide all the things students want; more diverse events, a farmers market, opportunities for students to actually have a voice in their education, streamlining the process in which clubs can get recognized and funded, healthier food choices on campus, lobby on behalf of students for state bills that can positively impact students, and any other events and changes students want to happen.
I will work on to create support for the creation of a fraternity row. Also I will work with our international students and their consulates to bring international support to this campus. I will work to build relationships with elected officials and community members to make our university and community better for students.

Statement:

My name is Derek Volk and I am your ASI Director of Recreation and Wellness. As your representative to Associated Students Inc., I will work hard to ensure that the diverse voices of all our students are heard by the campus administrators and decision makers at Cal State East Bay. As an ASI Board of Directors, College of Education and Allied Studies last year I have learned that students can make a difference, as evidenced by putting on a Meet the Dean Event and Suicide Prevention Event. Ive also gained valuable experience being an ASI Recreation and Wellness Committee member two years ago. Being able to put on events for the students is a good start, but I want to continue the recent progress we have seen at Cal State East Bay and further improve the services we offer our students. Some additional improvements I would like to see for our Recreation and Wellness students include improving intramural leagues, student experience, and help students improve their overall health. These are achievable goals that require our voices to be heard. I will bring a strong work ethic, open mind, and a positive attitude to Associated Students Inc Board of Directors.

Fax-(510) 885-7415
Email- asidirscience@csueastbay.edu

Statement:

Hello! Im Erik Olivar, and Im an Industrial Engineering major currently in my fourth year. During my time here at CSUEB, I have been involved with the engineering clubs, including Institute of Industrial Engineers and Engineers for People, Planet, and Prosperity, and have served as a student committee member of the A2E2/IRE Committee for the College of Science. My involvement on campus so far has motivated me to take on the role as Director of College of Science. For the following year, I along with the ASI Board of Directors will work to make certain that the concerns of the students are heard. Specifically to the College of Science, I plan to advocate for study sessions to ensure students receive the help they need; inform students of job and internship opportunities within their field of study; and assist student organizations with planning and promoting events. In addition, with help from the college directors of CLASS, CBE, and CEAS, I hope to build collaboration between the four colleges. Creating a better college experience is of utmost importance, and I am very excited for what this year brings.

Statement:

Hello,
I am now in my final year at CSU East Bay as a student of Industrial Engineering. During my early years on campus, I discovered how much one can make a difference. By being actively involved with clubs and organizations I witnessed how much more of an effect a group can make. We have seen many improvements on our campus over the last few years but there's more do to. We can all admit that the atmosphere on our campus can be friendlier and much livelier. We can make a great impact towards these goals if we start at the two busiest buildings on campus, the University Unions. One step into achieving our goals is by making sure that everything in both the unions is running smoothly and efficiently. This would offer the students an exciting and comfortable experience. I thank you all and I am honored to serve the students as a member of the ASI Board of Directors. With the help of the other hardworking members of the ASI Board, faculty and hopefully you the students, we can achieve more than is expected.

DIRECTOR, COLLEGE OF BUSINESS & ECONOMICS

Contact Information,
Fax-(510) 885-7415
Email- asidirCBE@csueastbay.edu

Statement:

I am honored and extremely excited to hold the position of Director of Colleges, Business & Economics! I will be fully engaged with the student body to listen and understand all students concerns and represent all students effectively to the Administration. I bring a high level of enthusiasm; energy and passion that will help facilitate a successful resolution between students and administration on the issues. A few of the issues I will address are:
1. A lack of effective communication exists between academic departments and the student body. - Resolution: I will facilitate regular town hall meetings between academic departments and the student body - have regular topics to highlight/share campus information.
2. As you are aware, the unemployment rate in the U.S. is at an all time high. It has become extremely difficult for college graduates to find their first professional jobs. Our Academic and Career Counselors are hard to reach.
-Resolution: I will work towards establishing open forums with counselors available to help our students prepare themselves for job interviews, internships and their professional job search. I will make it my personal priority to reach out to Corporations to expose CSU East Bay students to the many professional opportunities available.
3. I will bring Study Lockdowns to all the colleges and engage the Student Center for Academic Achievement for tutoring support.

As Director of Colleges, Business & Economics I am excited and determined to make a difference on this campus by improving the communication between students , administration and lead efforts for collaboration between clubs on campus.
