Statement:

Greetings Pioneers,
With school starting this past Wednesday I’d like to welcome and invite you all to join your Associated Students Incorporated (ASI) in transforming and improving the political and social landscape of our University.
You can do this through applying to be on an ASI committee, university-wide committee, but most importantly you can do this by staying engaged. Coming to not only ASI sponsored events, but all club and organization events on campus. I challenge all of you to grow intellectually and expand your horizons this year.
In these first three weeks of school the opportunity to be an active participator and decision maker will be made available to you through the filling of committee positions. They are an excellent chance to build your resume, develop as a leader, and become more competent on the issues that affect your ability to grow educationally. In addition, committee positions are a stepping-stone to potentially serving within the larger capacity of ASI.
During this first quarter I’m going to be working diligently on meeting as many of my fellow Pioneers as I can. Whether it is in passing to class, at a campus event, or when you stop by my office (located on the 2nd floor of the University Union).
Finally, your ASI can be perceived to be that intangible bureaucratic organization on campus that you know nothing about or your biggest resource and potential hub of opportunity this entire year.

Best regards,
Your Student-Body President
Christopher Prado

EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT/CHIEF OF STAFF

Statement:

Hello,
My name is Christopher Caldwell and I serve as Executive Vice President for Associated Students Inc. I am a senior majoring in Business Administration with an emphasis in marketing and finance. This is my second year on the ASI Board of Director’s and third year being involved in the organization. It is with my hope that I and other student leaders will bring something different this year, while continuing to provide the student body with programming and events that are educational, thought provoking, and fun. I often tell my peers that they should be involved on campus and this year would be a great opportunity to do so. If you want to see a change, make a difference, or be part of something that ultimately affects you; then I encourage everyone to join a club, organization, or even a committee through ASI to get involved.
With the increases in our educational costs it is going to be more important than ever for students to advocate for themselves on all fronts. That’s why ASI will continue to represent the students of East Bay in statewide issues through the California State Student Association which represents the whole CSU system. I truly believe that if all our students can work collectively to better our school, we will continue to inspire excellence amongst ourselves, others, and those who come after us. So let yourself be heard in a positive light and I look forward to seeing all the things we can make possible this year.

VICE PRESIDENT OF FINANCE

Contact Information,

Statement:

As I drafted this statement of my intentions for my position, I felt unsure regarding the image that I needed to portray to all of you – would I need to include a laundry list of intentions to indicate my capability or, would it be necessary to write brilliant words of hope and inspiration to come across as a leader? In the end, common sense ruled and hopefully within these words, you are able to grasp the essence of why I ran for office in the first place.
My number one priority is to make it easier for clubs and organizations to receive financial assistance for their events on campus. Improving this will have a direct impact on the quality of student life we have on campus.
Transparency is my next priority - I will release information that will help you understand what you and I give towards keeping your student government functional. I will also tell you why that’s all the more important in today’s economic conditions.
My concluding priority is stepping outside this text medium – so that you see the face behind the name and better understand why I (and others) ran for office. More “facetime” through townhall meetings and classroom visits will certainly move us in that direction.
Those are my top three priorities for the year ahead – very much attainable and real. The only asterisk to that sentence would be your involvement. So go ahead and get involved on campus!

-Sid

Statement:

Hello my name is Derek Volk and I am a Recreation Major in the school of College of Education and Allied Studies (CEAS). I was born and raised in Southern California, but came up to East Bay to experience the Nor Cal life. I wanted to become more involved with school and decided to be a part of the RAW Committee last year. As an ASI Recreation and Wellness Committee member, I learned that students can make a difference, as evidenced by the completion and grand opening of the state-of-the-art Recreation and Wellness (RAW) Center. The RAW is a good start, but I want to continue the recent progress we have seen at Cal State East Bay and further improve the services we offer our students. Some additional improvements I would like to see for our CEAS students include improving the quality of Kinesiology labs, increasing the availability of popular classes required for graduation, and expanding internship opportunities for CSUEB students in the local area.

Statement:

Hello Pioneers and Staff. I am currently in my final year as a student of Industrial Engineering. Upon completion I plan on studying Green technologies and their use in engineering and my position as Director of Environmental Affairs is a great opportunity to begin this journey. I am grateful for the chance I have been given to serve my fellow students and bring more environmental awareness to CSU East Bay. My goals are to help ensure a healthy environment for the current and future Pioneers as well as remain committed to working to improve the social, economical and environmental well being of our school and community. I plan to ensure that we are implementing sustainable practices on campus. I hope that you all will all support me in encouraging everyday practices of recycling, reusable bags and composting on campus and in your own homes.
Though my time on the board will be short, I plan to start a few legacy projects, such as a green roof and composting campaign, which will benefit our campus and its student for years to come. I would also like to encourage our campus to stride for goals such as the STARS award (Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System). This award allows colleges and universities to measure their sustainability progress. I will also be looking into obtaining our first green roof on campus. I am truly excited about this opportunity and hope that you will keep the environment in mind in everything you do.

Statement:

As an East Bay native raised 5 miles down the hill, there’s nothing more that I want than this campus to prosper, and be the ‘go to’ college when talking about CSU schools in the Bay Area. I am a double major undergraduate, majoring in Business Administration, with a double-option in Marketing & Advertising / Public Relations, as well as majoring in Art, with a double-option in Graphic Design & Multimedia. I am a proud member and brother of the fraternity, Tau Kappa Epsilon (TKE), as well as a member and current Vice President of Advertising & Promotions for the American Marketing Association. As you can see, I am a busy and active individual, but this is nothing new to me. I am used to doing whatever that I need to do, and sacrificing whatever that needs to be sacrificed in getting the job done; and I will make sure I will do the same as the ASI Director of College of Business & Economics. As Director, I will make sure that I will be a link between not only between students and the College of Business & Economics, but as a link for all students and the University of Cal State East Bay.

Melanie Sutrathada

DIRECTOR, PUBLIC RELATIONS

Contact Information,

Fax-(510) 885-7415
Email- asidirpublicrelations@csueastbay.edu

Statement:

Hello! I am Melanie Sutrathada, and I serve on the Board of Directors as the Director of Public Relations for Associated Students Inc. As a double major in Broadcast Communications and Theatre Arts, I have been described by some as the quintessential people person.
Previously, I worked as the assistant publicist at Elle C. Communications, a Bay Area-based public relations firm. I worked extensively on a variety of diverse tasks from constructing press releases for the lines of New York fashion designers to working exclusively on the social media aspects of the company. My natural interest in the images of companies, countless products and people was ignited through this work, and I began to explore the unlimited possibilities of the field of public relations. I quickly found that working directly with people to make their vision a reality was gratifying and rewarding.
With my previous experiences and dedication to bettering the college experience for our students, my ultimate goal is to strengthen the relationship between ASI and the students and to combat the current image. Most view California State University, East Bay merely as a commuter school. However, I firmly believe that it is time for a new image. A bigger, better, brighter one, where your voice can be heard.
As one of my role models, Eleanor Roosevelt, once said, “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” I look forward to serving you as the Director of Public Relations for the 2011-2012 school year at CSU East Bay.
