New Year, New Quarter!

posted by ASI on January 07th, 2013

Welcome Back Students!

The ASI team hopes that you all had a wonderful winter break and happy holidays!  It’s the beginning of a new year and the beginning of a new quarter here at CSUEB.  You know what that means?!  NEW EVENTS! Throughout this winter quarter, CSUEB will be hosting a ton of exciting new events for you guys.  Here’s a heads up of what’s to come in the month of January!

This Thursday, January 10th, The Diversity Center will be hosting a Post Secret event from 3-5pm.  The Diversity center is located in the New Union right across from Subway.  Go write down a secret of yours and submit it anonymously.  ASI will then create a book of everyone’s secrets so that you can read through them later.  This is a great way to express yourself, and release thoughts or feelings without feeling judged.  There will be another chance to come to this event on January 28th, same place, same time :)

On Tuesday, January 22nd, The Diversity center will host an event called Stimulate Your Mind: I’m Color Blind.  This event will be in the Diversity Center at 4pm.  This is an awesome opportunity to come discuss the question, Does racism still exist in a post racial world?  It is important to open your mind to such topics and it is a great way to express yourself and learn about culture in today’s society.

On Wednesday, January 23rd, is the registration deadline to sign up for INTRAMURAL SPORTS.  This winter, there will be Co-Ed Basketball and Co-Ed Indoor Flag Football.  It’s only $5 per person to register.  All you have to do is go into the RAW Center (Recreation and Wellness Center) located across the street from the dorms and ask the front desk to register.  Intramural Sports is a fun way to exercise, meet friends, and have friendly competition.

On Wednesday, January 30th, in the New Union Multipurpose Room, there will be an Improv Comedy Show called Laugh Your @$$ Off! The event will start at 6pm. This event is FREE, and who doesn’t love free?!  Come with your friends, bring a date, or family and enjoy some comedy!

And last but not least…

On Thursday, January 31st, The Diversity Center will be hosting an event called “Know Your Rights!”  Zahra Billoo (The Executive Director of CAIR) will be guest speaking.  This event is a great opportunity to learn about the power inside of yourself.  You can accomplish anything with the right mindset.  The event will start at 3pm.

You guys don’t want to miss out on these upcoming events!  This is an awesome chance for you to meet new people, try new things, and most of all…just have fun and relax :)   Hope to see you all there!
